Colazione africana (su mia esplicita richiesta, ne vale la pena, con porridge di mais, ottimo). Partenza presto, piccole spese al mercato di Keratu, frutta fresca, pane, qualche cassetta di musica africana, rifornimento diesel e alle 11 inizia il primo game drive nel cratere nel Ngorongoro, il cui fondo si trova a 2200 mslm).

4° g - 22 Ago: Eyasi, caccia con i Boscimani – Keratu
Partenza prima delle 6 per essere dai Boscimani, popolazione di raccoglitori e cacciatori presente un po' in tutta l'Africa meridionale ed orientale. Su questo sito si possono vedere alcuni interessanti video sui Boscimani. All’alba ed andare con loro a caccia, con arco e frecce! Li troviamo dopo un po’ (essendo nomadi non sono sempre facilmente reperibili) in un wadi (fiume in secca). Presentazioni di rito, sono socievoli anche se non abituati a vedere troppi turisti. Visita molto interessante anche se non si riesce a comunicare con i Boscimani, che non parlano neanche lo swahili per cui neanche le nostre guide possono fare da interpreti!

3° g - 21 Ago: Arusha – parco Manyara
Ci vengono a prendere le jeep con i nostri autisti, capeggiati da Israel, un simpatico omone con molta esperienza anche se forse non altrettanto entusiasmo. Partiamo; ci fermiamo al supermarket Shopright, sul Sokoine Drive, per fare cambusa per il safari (spendiamo 170.000 Tzs, di cui 88.000 per acqua, calcolando una bottiglia da 1.5 litri al giorno a persona circa). Affittiamo anche il fornello a gas con relativa bombola dal nostro autista.

2° g - 20 AGO: Arusha e villaggio dintorni
Arrivo ad Arusha molto presto, siamo a 1800mslm, ci vengono a prendere in aeroporto. Andiamo in albergo dove mi incontro con Don, il corrispondente, per fare i conti e confermare le prenotazioni per tutto il viaggio. Poi decidiamo, tra le varie possibilità offerteci per la prima giornata, di andare a visitare un villaggio nelle vicinanze, quello di Ng’iresi, a 7km dalla città. Il villaggio è diventato un emblema del turismo “culturale”.

1° g - 19 Ago: Italia – Arusha
Partenza regolare con Ethiopian Airlines da Roma, sosta ad Addis Abeba e coincidenza per Arusha, la principale città del nord della Tanzania. Accompagno un gruppo di una dozzina di italiani, un misto di coppie e singles inveterati (come me) alla ricerca di Africa. L’aeroporto di Addis è moderno, pulito ed efficiente.

20° g - 1 Luglio: Amritsar – Delhi 470 KM ORE 5 (TRENO) – imbarco per l’Italia e fine del viaggio
Mattinata e primo pomeriggio in ordine sparso, chi torna in città, chi si riposa in albergo. Il monsone si fa sentire, piove, caldo umido, ma a suo modo l’atmosfera è suggestiva di un’India di cui finora non avevo fatto esperienza, essendo venuto sempre d’inverno. Eppure il monsone è la vita dell’India, senza di esso il paese non potrebbe sopravvivere, anzi non esisterebbe proprio come lo conosciamo. Ogni anno qui gli economisti aspettano il monsone per calcolare il prodotto interno lordo!

18° g - 30 Giugno: Dharamshala – Waghan – Amritsar 200 KM ORE 6
Trasferimento per Amritsar, strada ottima, scorrevole, ma caldo umido, siamo ormai scesi dalle montagne ed è la stagione dei monsoni. Prese le camere al Royal Castle Hotel (castello reale di nome e di fatto, almeno paragonato alle altre sistemazioni di questo viaggio!!) e andiamo a Wagah per la famosa cerimonia quotidiana dell’ammainabandiera.

17° g - 29 Giugno: Dharamshala
Giornata a zonzo per la città. Prima di tutto udienza dal Dalai Lama, che però consiste nell’assistere ad una sua lettura di brani sacri. A parte il fatto che legge i mantra in tibetano e rapidissimamente (ma sono disponibili radioline con le quali ascoltare la traduzione simultanea in inglese trasmessa da una stazione FM!) è difficile capire molto dalla sua giaculatoria, che assomiglia molto alle puja...

16° g - 28 Giugno: Manali – Dharamsala 230 KM ORE 8
Più ci allontaniamo dalle montagne e più migliora la strada, si alza la media di percorrenza. Incontriamo un matrimonio, ci invitano alla festa ma purtroppo non abbiamo tempo per fermarci, peccato. Breve sosta ad un mercato di frutta per strada, compriamo ottime albicocche. Pranzetto volante in un ristorantino da camionisti, ci preparano la “aloo parantha” il pane con patate e “pickles” (sott’aceti piccanti), divertenti e saporitissimi!

15° g - 27 GIU: Sarchu – Manali 220 KM ORE 8
Attraversamento di varie vallate, incontri con tribù nomadi che ci invitano nelle loro tende. Li vediamo cucinare ed anche lavorare la lana. Alcuni pastori tosano le capre Pashm, per ricavarne la famosa lana pashmina. Ci offrono il thè salato con burro ed orzo. Continuiamo il tortuosissimo cammino giù per le valli fino ad arrivare a Manali in prima serata.
Manali è una destinazione di turismo indiano ma non offre grandi spunti di interesse culturale. Col bel tempo ci sono montagne stupende per camminate, giri in bicicletta, ma in questa stagione piove! C’è uno spettacolo musicale in albergo, frequentato da molti turisti indiani, noi siamo gli unici occidentali. Ottima cena buffet sempre in albergo, lo Snow Crest Manor.
Manali è una destinazione di turismo indiano ma non offre grandi spunti di interesse culturale. Col bel tempo ci sono montagne stupende per camminate, giri in bicicletta, ma in questa stagione piove! C’è uno spettacolo musicale in albergo, frequentato da molti turisti indiani, noi siamo gli unici occidentali. Ottima cena buffet sempre in albergo, lo Snow Crest Manor.
