When this book was published in 1965 it must have been a ground breaking achievement. Very little was known then of the Maldives and underwater life in the atolls. Many photographs (of good quality given the technology of the time) complete an exhaustive description of the animal and plant life in the reef.
The book is obviously obsolete in light of subsequent research and developments, but it remains an important historical record on the subject. Unfortunately the authors did not devote any space to life on the islands, though curiously they do write about Ceylon (Sri Lanka) where they spent some time while their boat was undergoing maintenance.
